The dream within you that must be realized, embodied and lived

by Lisa McCrohan | Apr 4, 2017 | Following what delights your heart, Mindful Motherhood

(Update: 4/5/17: As of 5 a.m, backers of the Gems of Delight Kickstarter Campaign have backed 140%!  In less than 24 hours, this powerful tribe came together and knocked it out of the park!) It all started in Mrs. Kostenbader’s third grade class. She introduced us to...

Take heart in turbulent times: how gratitude and delight nourish the soul

by Lisa McCrohan | Nov 21, 2016 | Following what delights your heart

This is a week of Thanksgiving and gathering in the United States. And I know that not every person is thrilled or even comfortable with the holidays. Maybe your family is divided on politics. Maybe the holidays bring your grief to the surface. Maybe there is a deep...

Devoted to what delights your heart and what you know you have to do

by Lisa McCrohan | Nov 17, 2016 | Following what delights your heart

“Go to bed, my Love,” I heard as I awoke to Brian gently nudging me awake, taking the pen out of my hand and helping me up. I fell asleep making edits to my book.  I get the kiddos in bed and then I’m back writing.  I have no editor, no agent, no...

Learning to be embodied and listen from the heart – Lessons from Kauai

by Lisa McCrohan | Sep 28, 2016 | Following what delights your heart, Mindfulness in Everyday Life

Morning in Hawaii Resting here with you, I listen to this moment. Breath, rain, ocean – peace. Lisa McCrohan, © 2016 I stood there on the shore in Kauai, Hawaii, watching the powerful waves crashing onto the shore and then receding back out into the vast ocean....
Risk living your life based on what is most sacred to you

Risk living your life based on what is most sacred to you

by Lisa McCrohan | Sep 10, 2016 | Following what delights your heart, Living Your Spirituality in Everyday Life, Serving, Healing and Transforming Our World

I hear it.  I sense it.  Within you.  Within me.  A fire growing.  A wave forming.  A revolution of the heart-body-mind-spirit rising. We are done putting our attention (effort, energy, time…our sacred time) into what doesn’t serve us, what doesn’t feel like “right...
Give into the Wildness

Give into the Wildness

by Lisa McCrohan | Sep 3, 2016 | Following what delights your heart, Living Your Spirituality in Everyday Life, Soulful Poetry

There is a holy wildness growing louder within each of us. I hear it in my clients. I hear it pushing against my own ribs. The beginning of September can still be hot here in the D.C. area and, at this point, many of us are tired of it and ready for the cooler...

I believe that delight is our true nature, compassion heals, and being in community with like-hearted people nourishes the soul. You step into and embody your true power when you turn inward and listen to your heart. More about Lisa →

Instagram post 2198039794412219405_1648793457 The Soul’s Way

You think that you can control what will come
by planning and striving,
reaching and being ever so organized.
When you have “everything in place,”
you have the illusion of control.
For a while, you may feel satisfied,
the hunger seems quelled,
and all is quiet and neatly arranged.

But yet I call you into the unknown,
to not have it all planned out,
to just hear my voice and leap into the mystery.
I have plans for you that you cannot plan,
organize or plot out with colorful markers,
progressive steps, and a linear timeline.

This is not my way.
It is not the way to true freedom.
Freedom is here, right now,
surrendering, trusting,
believing in the possibility that
I can delight your soul
more than any planning
could ever offer you.

I am taking my own (poetic) advice today. I’d really love to have somethings super planned out. But that’s not what I’m being really called to. I’m being called to surrender, openness, surprise, and delight. I am being called to leap into the mystery and trust I’ll be held and delight will flow through me.
.
How about you?

Instagram post 2197426515226912237_1648793457 Recently someone said to me, “I never feel beautiful.”
.
Five minutes before she said this, I was sitting there looking at her thinking, “God, she is so beautiful.”
.
It made my heart wilt. How many years - maybe even decades - did I waste thinking I wasn’t beautiful, critiquing myself in the mirror, comparing myself to others and treating myself so harshly?
.
Whenever I would tell my mom how drab or not pretty I was, my mom would always tell me how lovely I am. She kept reflecting my goodness. She’d say, “Lisa, you are stunning.” But I’d dismiss her opinion.
.
When I heard this person say she never felt beautiful, I thought about how my mom must have felt when I’d critique myself. I imagined she’d long for me to see me how she sees me. Because I longed for this person to see herself the way I did: absolutely stunning.
.
I refuse to waste my precious time nit-picking myself. It’s so much wiser to put all that energy into loving ourselves and loving others.
.
We’ve been socialized to keep in this constant self-critiquing mode so we don’t really embrace our power. Well, enough.
.
I took this selfie this fall and I noticed how happy and shining my eyes are and how they reflect what is on the inside of me. My soul IS shining. I really AM happy. And that includes happy with this lovely body of mine, too. I am making peace with her. And she is flourishing in such new “living conditions.”

Instagram post 2196578487666411794_1648793457 Today I’m heading down to @georgetownuniversity with @guwellness for the monthly Mind-Body Connections workshop I facilitate for faculty and staff. And today we are talking all about BOUNDARIES! I love love love this embodied awareness practice of noticing when you are joining, merging, or disconnecting from a person in any given situation and building up that interception (felt sense, body awareness) of what you are doing when you are doing it so you have a CHOICE and agency in how you want to be living and interacting.
.
Healthy boundary-setting and awareness - perfect timing before the holidays when all our stuff gets triggered!
.
Need some healthy boundaries in your life? Go to my website, search “boundaries” and you’ll see an article on Four Essential Ways Wise Women Set Healthier Boundaries. I got you covered!

Instagram post 2195081326147604556_1648793457 I woke up around my usual time this morning - way before everyone else. It was dark outside. We had a full weekend, and this morning I just wanted to lay in the darkness and silence before the day began.

I often do this. Even though I love being with people, I need the quiet. I need the silence.

In the sacred silence, we can hear our heartbeats. We can connect with our breath. We can sense the Divine whispering to us.

I have a long “to do” list - for home and work. But I have found that I get less overwhelmed when I take these moments of quiet, when I cultivate some silence throughout my day - starting in the morning.

I know life is hectic. I know the list of things we have to do is long. And yet, these moments of quiet nourish us and fortify is to do what we have to do.

I have 7 Sacred Practices for Healing the Overwhelm. You can find them on my website. Search “stillness” and the blog post will come up.

Instagram post 2194656308691335612_1648793457 It’s Time for Beauty
.
When your heart is heavy,
when your eyes are tired,
when you’ve been working too much and too hard,
when your anxiety runs high,
when you’ve read about yet another cruelty
happening in our world…

let it be time for beauty.
Yes, pause just wherever you are –
in the office or at the kitchen sink –
and look around you.

She’s always here –
sometimes ever so quietly
calling you to watch your
son’s eyelashes as
he does his homework,
sometimes ever so grandly
like a sunset of the most
magnificent shades of oranges,
reds, and yellows.

Let her soften you and
open your heart.
Let her soothe your strained eyes
and weary heart.
Let her remind you that there is
good in the world –
even miracles.

Let beauty save you from turning
apathetic or numb.
Let her pull you offline and
out of the world of likes and comments.
Let her guide you back into
connection – harmony –
with what is sacred and true.

Let her reawaken our humanity.
