The Gospel Within You

The Gospel Within You

by Lisa McCrohan | Sep 22, 2019 | Cultivating Compassion, Serving, Healing and Transforming Our World, Soulful Poetry

The Gospel Within You There is a gospel within you that wants to be preached with words – possibly – but mostly with your body truth spoken through the way your feet stand firmly and confidently on the earth the way you t a k e u p s p a c e the way you are done...

Your Wings: Learning to Rise and Lead

by Lisa McCrohan | Oct 1, 2018 | Professional Development, Serving, Healing and Transforming Our World, Soulful Poetry

Your Wings Why are you still playing small? Rise up, my Love. The nest you are in is too small for you. Jump out! Take a leap and fly! You were meant to soar. Your wings were meant to draw people’s eyes up to the heavens in awe. Lisa McCrohan, © 2018 I know so many...

Planting the Seed of Meaning and Purpose in our children’s lives

by Lisa McCrohan | Sep 13, 2018 | living with intention and purpose, Regarding Our Children, Serving, Healing and Transforming Our World

Two years after I had graduated from college, I discerned that I was going to work and live in solidarity with the marginalized. I didn’t want to just work at a free clinic and then go home to my nice apartment. I wanted to be alongside the marginalized. I looked into...

Summer family kindness to create a more compassionate world

by Lisa McCrohan | Jun 18, 2018 | Cultivating Compassion, Regarding Our Children, Serving, Healing and Transforming Our World

“Mom,” my son asked me one day as we were stopped at a light. I looked in the rear view mirror and I saw that he was looking at the homeless man who stood at the island in the middle of the road with a sign that read, “Homeless veteran. Please...

Don’t “keep calm and carry on”

by Lisa McCrohan | Jun 7, 2018 | Serving, Healing and Transforming Our World

We barely said “hello” and she started to cry.  “I’m so sorry,” she said with a shaky voice through her tears, “I usually don’t cry so easily.” “Most people I talk to in coaching and therapy cry at their first appointment,” I shared with her. “We as women have been...

I believe that delight is our true nature, compassion heals, and being in community with like-hearted people nourishes the soul. You step into and embody your true power when you turn inward and listen to your heart. More about Lisa →

Instagram post 2193118974304848968_1648793457 Awwww. Sherlock now has his own bed in my office where he can snuggle up and sleep when he needs to during sessions when a break is necessary or after seeing “his” clients and I’m doing paperwork! He loves this bed. It’s a bit too small for him but he likes to curl up. I love being a psychotherapist! And I’m so grateful for this pup who loves doing what I do, too!

Instagram post 2192222069194578161_1648793457 Awhile back someone told me, “I don’t think anyone is going to resonate with ‘sacred.’ Use the word ‘important’.”
.
Should I use the word “sacred”? Is anyone going to get it?
.
But something kept prompting me to use “sacred.” I included it in the subtitle of my first book. (Gems of Delight: Seasonal Inspirations for Moms to Heal the Hurry and Embrace What is Sacred).
.
Then it occurred to me: maybe we need to start using “sacred” as it points us to what is to come... a soulful focus that is necessary in our world of pings and dings...a soulful way of cultivating deeper connection.
.
Maybe we aren’t there yet but it’s where we’re headed. Maybe “sacred” is what we need.
.
As I walk beside people who have lost someone they love and as I sense the fragility of life and the grand opportunity we have, I see it all as sacred. I don’t want to get pulled into the abyss of what doesn’t matter or waste my time being angry at stupid stuff - or holding onto grudges over big stuff. I want to live aligned with the Divine. That’s a scared life.
.
So...”sacred” is here to stay with me and my writings.
—————————-
What’s Sacred

What’s sacred to you?
Yes, sacred.
Because that’s what matters.
That’s what you want to build your
life around. “Sacred” means more than
what’s “important.”
Sacred goes soul deep.
How you love in this human form
in your daily life is the expression of
your soul’s reason for being here.

Get clear about that.
Don’t just wander.
Don’t just aimlessly go about life.
You’ll get pulled into the abyss of
what everyone else wants and
what the world thinks you should be and do.

There are way too many shiny
objects and distractions in our modern life.
In order to hear Your God talking to you,
you must step out of the noise
every day for even just ten minutes.

Put your hand on your heart,
feel the breath breathing you,
feel the life force flowing through you.

Here your next steps will be guided.
You will embody and shine the light
within you
for your deepest wellbeing
and for the world to become a
a better,more peaceful
and compassionate place
because of your clear devotion
to what’s sacred.

Instagram post 2191561256725209645_1648793457 Hope
When there seems no other way
but through the darkness

when the light of hope flickers out

when you wonder how you will
make it through
or if you will ever be happy again

Please, take my hand.

I will lend you my hope.

I will bring you flowers
and I will empty the vase when they wilt,
and I will keep coming to visit
with flowers and a meal.

I will listen or just be beside you
in silence
because there isn’t anything to say
but only breathe together
and ask for grace
that one day...(see link in profile to new poem, Hope)

Instagram post 2190874017280228052_1648793457 A client said to me today, “Lisa, you are not only so skilled but you work with such integrity. You have such a gift. You are my angel. I am so glad I found you.”
.
At first I down played it and changed the subject. She came back to it again. And then I paused. She is right - I do have an inner sense of integrity. I do love what I do. I am very “about” my clients and their wellbeing. And I do believe God sends us to accompany one another and we are angels for each other. I know that I have felt like some people were “placed” in my life by the hand of the Divine and they have been angels in my life.
.
And so, that’s a new thought for me: maybe the harder part isn’t noticing the angels around us but acutely surrendering to and accepting the idea that you - me - we can be an angel to someone.
.
I imagine you are an angel to someone in your life. I’m humbly trying that on - maybe I’m being used as an angel to someone, too.

P.S. People ask me what the turquoise bags are in the bottom left corner of the picture. They are weighted sandbags that we sometimes use in somatic psychotherapy to support a sense of feeling grounded, healthy containment, and support.
Instagram post 2186473528937643620_1648793457 We didn’t plan to do this, but when my husband realized we were going to be going by the Great Dunes National Park on our way from Breckenridge to Albuquerque, we said, “Who knows when we will be here again. Let’s do it!” I did look up pictures of the park online but to see such natural beauty in person, it took my breath away. And the drive — such expansive landscape! How amazing that one country can be so diverse in its beauty. From the mountains outside my own backdoor in Maryland to the mountains out west, what beauty is here! It reminds me that all we have to do is look around - look outside - and sense that this very moment holds a sacred sense of delight.

Instagram post 2185179165766755137_1648793457 Last winter, my family and I tried out skiing and snowboarding. I fell down a ton while snowboarding. I knew it wasn’t my thing. The next time we went, I tried skiing. And instantly I was hooked. It was challenging and scary AND I loved it - being outside and exercising in the winter, the quiet on the slopes, the challenge. This winter, we have started out by going out west to Breckenridge. These mountains!!! It feels so good to challenge myself like this - not harshly, not pushing myself to some crazy ideal - just the “right kind” of challenge.
.
The older I get, the kinder I am to myself. I don’t push myself in harsh ways. Instead, I find that sweet spot where I’m a bit scared AND it feels right.
.
Find that sweet spot in whatever you need to do in this season do your life. Gently yet firmly challenge that growing edge. Know when to stop and when to keep going.
