One Glorious First Step
By Lisa McCrohan

There comes a time in your life when
you have to finally follow that One Desire
that has been here, inside your heart, your bones,
the very fiber of your being, for possibly decades.
Before you do anything else or put energy into
a new project or pursuit or distraction,
you must finally see and tend to this longing
that has been calling to you.

There comes a time when
you must finally have the courage
to name that
One
Holy
Desire
and gather those around you
who can hold space for you
and hear you speak this desire
into the world.

There comes a time when
you can let the tears flow now
because you are finally aligned with your truth
and in speaking it, you didn’t die –
as ego and fear had you thinking for so long –
but rather now you feel a new sense of freedom
and breathing space across your chest and belly.
You embody a new sense of aliveness –
an aliveness you know as your birthright.

There comes a time when
the voices of the world begin to fade into nothingness
and you laugh now because
not even the ghost of doubt can shake you.
Instead, now what wakes you in the middle of the night
is the call of your Heart leading you
to take that one glorious first step
in the direction of Home.

That Desire — that one Holy Desire — within you.  It calls to you.  It has been whispering to you.  It has grown louder and louder.  It won’t be ignored.  You hear it calling to you, possibly now pounding from the insides of your ribs.  You KNOW it.  You intuitively know it is here for your own evolution, for your family, for the world. You know it is like the Great Mother calling to you — calling you Home.  And yet, it frightens you.  It’s wild.  And this wildness goes against the ways you have been molded, shaped, and socialized by our culture.  You have spent years being “proper” and “getting along nicely with others.”  And yet late at night, this One Desire calls your name.

You may have tried to medicate it, exercise it away, shove it down with food or alcohol, or distract it with keeping your life busy.  But IT WILL NOT GO AWAY.

Until one day – whether it is because you have hit rock bottom or you just can’t take it anymore – you finally turn toward this One Truth and decide to look it in the eye and say, “I am here. Take me.  I surrender.”

You are ready to take that one glorious first step into the “seemingly” unknown.  Though your legs are shaking, your heart is beating a strong, powerful, certain “yes.”  You position your feet in the direction of Home.  From behind you, the voices that once distracted you, questioned you, kept you confined and shackled, now try their last attempt to call out to you.  But you no longer hear them.  “Not even the ghost of doubt” can taunt you or stop you.

And one step by one glorious step, you walk, leap, run, or dance into the arms of your One Holy Desire.  And you know you are Home.  The wildness is freeing, liberating.  You breathe how your body has known it can breathe – fully, with capacity to howl.  You are alive and yet deeply, deeply grounded.

My work is about holding space for people to clear out the distractions that hold them back from living a life they were meant to live.  Some people come to me in the midst of a messy divorce, losing a loved one, or trying to connect better with their aloof teenager.  Some people come to me after they received a promotion and they feel like an imposter, full of self-doubt.  Others come to me because they sense something needs to change — that they aren’t living the life they were meant to live — but they don’t know what to do or how to figure it out.  Others are “losing it” – they have less patience and they find themselves erupting at the people they love — or the grocery store clerk.

I hear the struggle.  We all experience times of struggle.  Something Holy is calling us to change.  Something Holy is calling us into the unknown.  Yet old stories keep us locked in old habits.  We try to keep down the Truth within each of us because we have been taught to fear the wildness of the Sacred Numinous Invitation into the unknown.

While I also hear about the struggle in my clients, I also hear a deeper current of courage.  There is a Holy Knowing that we hear and somehow know that we must finally surrender to it.  And though it isn’t pretty or perfectly laid out, we feel this pull to run to, dance to, embrace, acknowledge — the One Desire within us.

THIS!  This is what we need sacred space for.  This is why we need to be alongside others who can hear us and hold space for us to answer the wild Invitation so we take that one glorious step.

It’s messy and calls us into the mess.

It’s sometimes dark and uncertain.

It requires us to let go, trust, and take one step after another — surrendering again and again.

THIS is what i am about.  This is the sacred space that I hold for people in Coaching and psychotherapy!  It is sacred space for getting real, dropping the distractions that have kept us from following that One Holy Desire, dropping the stories and voices of doubt and shame that have held us back, and learning to answer the call — with every fiber of our being — of the wild, numinous One we know as Home.

If you sense this sacred and wild invitation, please, honor it!  Create space to listen.  Turn your loving gaze toward it and say, “Yes, please, help me take one glorious step toward You.”

And I am here to hold such space for you.

You can sign up for a free consult and check out how it would be to work together – supporting you to honor that One Holy Desire.

It is your birthright to embody your One Holy Desire.  AND…you bless the world – your family and the planet – when you are aligned with this One Desire.  It is the most compassionate of practices to fully embody who we are.

Blessings,
Lisa
